The coaches job description has been adopted by the SLP Panther Basketball Club Board of Directors as a way to help develop the right coaching culture for our organization to best serve our players and families. All coaches need to preview this job description and be prepared to carry out the duties and responsibilities that it describes.
All head and assistant coaches, for both the traveling and recreational programs are required to pass a Trusted Coaches background check and concussions screening. Background checks must be completed annually and concussion screening every 3 years. Coaches that are "flagged" through the Trusted Coaches background screening process will be immediately removed from any coaching position. Please review the Trusted Coaches Disclosure for more details.
Mid-summer - Traveling coach application deadline
Late July - Coach interviews conducted by board members
Early August - Board of Directors determines travel A level coaches and invites coaches under consideration for B/C level teams to continue in the coach process
September - Travel coaches participate in team tryouts and selection process
September - After tryouts remaining coaches are placed with B/C level teams any changes needed for A level coaches as a result of tryouts will be determined by the Board
Early October - Team practices begin
Rec coaches are selected by the Rec Director as a part of the rec season registration process
