Once teams are formed, boys will start the season with two practices per week for all grades. This will continue until games begin and then the boys will have one practice per week plus one or two games on the weekend.
When possible, we’ll find opportunities for bonus practices but gym space limits these opportunities for our program. Practices will start mid-December; the boys will have 2 full weeks of practices before any games begin.
Spring Lake Park partners with the Northern Twin Cities Basketball league (formerly known as Twin Cities Youth Basketball) for our in-house program. This program includes teams from Anoka-Ramsey, Blaine, Columbia Heights, DaVinci Academy School, Coon Rapids, and Fridley. This league is under new leadership with a newly formed board that has representation from each program. The board is committed to delivering a fun league where the kids can develop and compete on a level playing field.
One improvement for the upcoming season is that we will be working hard this year to ensure the games are scheduled with more consideration to our family’s time. If your team plays two games, we will coordinate the schedule to make sure those two games aren’t taking up your entire weekend.
Our goal for the league is to build highly competitive, but balance basketball teams that allow boys to play with their friends whenever possible. To do this, we (along with the other programs in the league) are going to be changing how we build our team going forward to help bring competitive balance throughout the league.
When you register, please share up to two boys your son would like to play with. If those boys also list your son on their registration, we will do everything we can to make sure they are on the same team. If players are not matched, they may still end up on the same team, but we cannot make any promises. If you have any questions about this change, please reach out to the rec directors.
We are always in need of coaches. Our coaches get the honor of helping to build the Spring Lake Park basketball program of the future. But in addition to that, head coaches are offered 50% off registration (refunded after the season), all equipment needed, training, and a nice long sleeve coach’s shirt.
If you are willing to coach, please indicate your interest during the registration process. We will also offer training opportunities and we are working on building out a library of coaching materials to help you with practices.
Registration fees include their uniform, paid referees, trophies and medals, gym time for games and practices, and administration costs to keep the league and club running. Fees vary based on age to account for gym rentals needs and league costs:
Grade | Reg Opens | Reg Closes | Season Dates | Fees |
---|---|---|---|---|
2nd Grade | September 19th | November 20th | December 13th to March 10th | $170.00 |
3rd-8th Grade | September 19th | November 20th | December 13th to March 10th | $185.00 |
Late registrations cannot be guaranteed a spot on a team. All registrations must be completed online (even if paying offline).
We want to create opportunities for all boys to learn to play basketball. If our registration fees create a financial hardship for your family, we do have partial and full scholarships are available to families participating in the free or reduced lunch program through the school. To request a scholarship, please send a copy of your lunch letter to Club Secretary John Haugen at john_haugen@yahoo.com
Please do not register online until you have confirmation of scholarship approval and have received your discount code. This will minimize any challenges with the registration process.
League Rules for Twin Cities Youth Basketball league are being updated. They will be posted here when they are completed.
