Panther Travel Basketball

Traveling basketball is for kids who want to develop their basketball skills at a more competitive level – especially those who might want to play basketball in high school and beyond. The SLPPBC’s Traveling Program consists of 3rd through 8th grade boy and girl teams. The SLPPBC is the only recognized traveling basketball club serving the Spring Lake Park school district, and our experienced board and coaches ensure a quality program.

Ages

Our travel program runs from 3rd to 8th grade. Teams are formed by grade.

When

We hold travel tryouts in late September each year. All travel players must tryout to be considered for a team. Practices start in October and games start in November. The season ends in March.

Where

Practices are generally held at SLP facilities. Tournaments are generally held throughout the Twin Cities metro area with the potential of one or two outside the metro.

Practices

Teams practice 90 minute two to three times per week. Practices are held Monday-Thursday.

Games

4th-8th Grade will play in 10 tournaments. Each tournament will have at least 3 games. Third grade will play in five tournaments.

Jerseys

Families will be responsible for 50 percent of the jersey cost and the Club will cover the other 50 percent. Athletes will try on jerseys at tryouts and orders will take place once tryout results are posted. Jerseys are used for two seasons.

Extra Costs

Most tournaments will not have a gate fee, but there are a few that do.

Some teams choose to enter extra tournaments at their own expense.

Team Outings

If a team chooses to enter a tournament outside the metro hotel cost is the responsibility of each family.

ELIGIBILITY

The Minnesota Youth Basketball Alliance (MYBA) has established team composition guidelines which designate school attendance as the primary factor when determining the association in which an athlete is eligible to participate. If your child attends one of the schools on the drop-down list in the registration, they are eligible to participate for the SLPPBC’s Traveling Program.

Some exceptions exist. Athletes attending a private or charter school may choose one of the options listed below:

  • Participate with the private/charter school that they attend.
  • Participate with the traveling basketball association where the school is located.
  • Participate with the traveling basketball association where the athlete resides.

Scholarships

The Spring Lake Park Panther Basketball Club (SLPPBC) strives to make it economically possible for players to participate in our programs. To accomplish that goal, the SLPPBC offers financial aid to eligible participants.

Deadline for submitting a scholarship application for the 2025-26 travel basketball season is September 8, 2025.
